Going for Greener Tomorrow

Hi friends...
This is Rupesh, part of LEAD team who particpated in this Green-gang along with Arth..
JD has almost took my words ;-) So hardly left to say anything..
But will surely mention about the profound happiness we experienced not just because of this plantation drive but also because we got to meet & interact with another like-minded volunteer group who too belives in 'Being the change to see the change'.....
Environment education also forms an imp. part of the entire education and we have been mulling over this since we started LEAD....Frankly, it could not have been better than this--I am sure, the best part that all of us would agree is that we all could also inculcate the importance of greenary/ climate in the young impressionable minds of our children... Though we could involve only 6 of them in this event, but we are soon going to assign these leaders the responsibility of taking this initiave forward in their  unhygienic surroundings...involving the entire 40+ enthusiastic & energetic young gang....so, watch out for this exciting space.....
Not to mention the trip was excellently planned---logistics, snacks, everything ...JD, Harshal, Jigar, HP, Avita, Gauri, Arun & all -- great team-work....!!!  Also you will be happy to know that all the balance idlis (almost 30-40) were given to our children for the entire community...
Have uploaded some snaps in our picasa albums... Here is the link--  http://picasaweb.google.co.in/lead.airoli/GoingForGreenerTomorrow#
Eagerly looking forward to particpate with Arth in more exciting events in future....

Cheers !!!

Arth: Go green with Hariyali!

Hi Arthians,

There is so much that we have taken away from the nature without returning anything. We realize it when we see the impact of it in the form of water shortage, delayed rains, summers getting hotter(even in cities like Mumbai).

Go green is a phrase that we heard when we went for the event, and carried it in our hearts when we returned.

Our appearance may be modest but our spirits certainly reached the sky.
The day of the event was marked with plantation of around 1500 saplings at Bhavale forest land near Kalyan.
This hurricane task was handled by Arth along with the involvement of LEAD members and college students that came there through Hariyali.

Arth again made an impact because of your presence. Thanks to everyone for being a part of this.

Special thanks to Mr. Punam Singavi (President of Hariyali-Thane ) for allowing us to be a part of this drive.

Hope to see you all in our next event!

Regards,
ARTH

LEAD gets good response from PTI event of NHP School

Hi friends,
It could not have been better than this...Last Saturday, Kailash, Richa, Shefali, Avishkar, Dhaval, HP, Manasi, Archana, Nina & I enetered into the premises of NHP School during their PTI(Parents Teacher Interaction) meet to create an awareness about LEAD. Jay, who attended our Thursday meet to plan out the details, couldnt make up but will be partcipating this saturday meant for the pre-primary sections.
We came to know about the spelling mistake in the meet but due to lack of time & the last minute backing out by the banner guy, we had to resort to pasting the errant word by a small patch. Kailash took extra pains in coordinating with this guy, getting the patch pasted in the banner in the school after his office hours on Friday. Thanks a lot Kailash !!
Special thanks to our NHP School teachers- Nina & Archana- for their commendable efforts & dedication for this event.-- The entire arrangement- putting up banner, our children's drawings, chairs, tables, permissions, giving flier to every teacher in the classroom,  taking 250 xeroxes (for the interested ones) -- everything was superbly handled by them.
We reached there at @ 7.45 am while the parents had already started lobbying. Archana had suggested  a dress code of white & blue .. ya, we did try that & everyone looked really cool..with the beautiful badges prepared by Manasi.
Teachers had carefully chosen the right place for us to grab max. eyeballs. Sensing the null in the first few minutes, the teachers rushed in to encourage us to hold on for some time ;-) And after then, there was no looking back. All of us had spread ourselves in the wide area to address each incoming query. Richa & Manasi smartly moved to the another floor where there were more footfalls. When we saw some parents were starightaway moving down the staircase, we conquered this areas too with the handouts, requesting the parents for their 2 minutes. Kailash, Avishkar & Dhaval handled the parents coming to the stall while I , HP & Shefali took the charge near the staircases. While it was really discouraging when some parents simply ignored us telling they dont have time to listen to us, but then there were also cases wherein people immidiately forked out Rs.100/- notes for us !!!  [Despite requesting them to do so after their visit to our class]..
Then there were issues like many people were intereseted but distance was the issue.."I stay in Mulund. Do you have something similar nearby?"  ;-)  However, it didnt much time for us to weed away such silly excuses by giving the examples of our current dedicated volunteers like Nigar (Ambernath), Rashmi (Chembur), Amit (Dombivli), Rahul (Vashi) & many more from Mulund & Thane. This helped them muster some courage & express their willingness to join us .
Also there weer cases like some people already having some solid social work experince with other similar NGOs, some people associated with other charitable/ religious groups too did express their support...
Archana & Nina introduced us to the managing trustee of the school. He is quite impressed with our work & will soon drop in to our centre. [More programs in pipe line !!! ;-)]
We have got much better response than we had expected. Their contact details have been noted down by us & yesterday Kailash, HP & Avishkar did the most important work of sorting down all the things.. We really need to work fast on that front now to prevent the early drainage of their curiosity & energy levels....
All these ended with some unexpected twist in the climax when I & HP were instructed by a lady to meet in her cabin immidiately. When Nina told us that she is the admisnistrative officer of the school, we could smell the rat in her tone & behaviour towards us. But thank god & Nina-- all went well after our 35 minutes wait outside her cabin..It was 12 & others had already winded up & were waiting for us in the canteen..We passed on some tension to them too ;-) , when the lady came out smilingly , " Why were you standing near the stairs? You can occupy the chairs & have a proper discussion with the parents ! "
Take one good news-- Monday morning , I saw an email with the subject 'An interesetd parent'. Pleasantly shocked, we contacted her, she stays in Mulund & will be joining us twice a week in the afternoon batch meant for Madhuri, Einetti & all...
Much more to come...Lets keep our fingers crossed...
IMP: Friends, we were thinking of skipping the coming pre-primary PTI event on Saturday 18th July 8am-12pm. But our pre-primary NHP School teachers Archana & Nina & even the HM wants us to be present on that day..infact they say this event will garner much greater response than this one..they are expecting a lot from their students' parents... So ... We are doin it !!
I & Kailash are not there, even our teachers will be in their respective classes ...
So, please confirm your partcipation for this event...

Thanks & Regards

Hi Friends, it was really a nice & challenging experience at NHP. I am sure everyone of us who were there must have a new experience while interacting with parents & all of us must have also felt proud that we were there in such a big school & in a short span of time, we had something really to show them, tell them that we represent LEAD. As I always tell that my two kids are in the same school, I found myself to be more comfortable in sharing our work with teachers & parents. Seeing the confidence level of all of us & the Management of NHP & parents, I am planning to take a leave on this Saturday (if anything urgent is not planned by my boss for me). I would now request you all to be a part of this event, as our NHP teachers are puting a lot of efforts & as Archana madam, Anupa Madam & Nina Madam are from Pre Primary, they will be too happy to bring more parents at our Venue. Believe me it will be really a learning experience for all of us & more for our student Volunteers.
Cheers.
